1.Open a new canvas 400W x 500H colour white.

Using the path drawing tool shape rectangle, mode 2D for now, colour any.

Draw a rectangle 212W x 330W.

Adjust this size if you want the book to be a different size.

8.Using the duplicate you made at the beginning, (this piece is still in 2D mode) change the colour to Hex: #ECE8E1

Move this piece to your main canvas.

Using the layer manager place it between the front piece of the book and the shadow.

All that should be visible is the part behind the holes....see picture on the left.

Right click and select all 3 pieces then merge as a single object.

Have you saved this recently:-).

9.Now still using the colour Hex: #ECE8E1 draw a 2D rectangle size 20W X 322H.

Go into path edit and move the bottom left node upwards as shown.

Exit path edit and return to 2D mode.

10.Now add some texture to this piece to make it look like pages.

Effect then Material Effect then texture filter.

Use emboss 9 changing the settings to those shown.

Right click arrange and send that piece to the back.

11.Now get the duplicate of the front (the piece you just made in step 7) and move it back to the main canvas.

Right click arrange and send to back.

The Spiral Rings

12.Using the path outline tool.....ellipse shape border 1 depth 30 draw an ellipse size 45 wide x 8 high.

Apply the silver 2 preset from the material attribute metallic gallery.

Place in position as shown.( I changed the background colour so this was more eaily visible)

13.Convert to image and using the eraser tool size 8 soft edge 0, carefully erase the top part of the ellipse so you end up with one ring as shown.

Be careful to leave the tiny part that will show through the hole on the back cover of the notebook.

14.Select the ring and duplicate, put both rings in position as shown.

Merge the rings as a single object then duplicate that as many times as you need for each hole in the cover.

Place in position and select all objects and merge as single object.

15.One note book all done, all that remains is to decorate the front.

Use text or a fancy font or a nice picture, remember you need to keep the perspective correct.

Now you have a basic note book you can play around with this to make other things, for example, a photo flip album or maybe a guest book?...Have fun!!
